It’s naive and somewhat risky to assume that relationships develop organically and naturally over time. Business relationships are not only a high-level strategic decision, but also a significant cost in terms of funds, resources, and manpower.
There are some tactics that help build relationships — and some that undermine connections. There’s nothing wrong with a pure cash transactional approach, if that’s your decision. Just beware that some short-term tactics can directly conflict with long term goals involving strategic relationships.
Never forget that internal relationships have to be developed as well. Don’t assume that connections within your organization will be automatic. You have to develop them as well.
